Applying for an IPO in India has become remarkably seamless thanks to UPI 2.0 and Application Supported by Blocked Amount (ASBA). Here is the step-by-step procedure to ensure your application is valid and submitted at the best price.
Prerequisites Before Applying
- An active Demat & Trading account (e.g., Zerodha, Groww, Angel One, Upstox, ICICI Direct).
- A valid UPI ID linked to your own bank account (for UPI bidding up to ₹5 Lakhs).
- Sufficient balance in your bank account to cover the lot amount.
Step-by-Step UPI Application Process
- Log in to your broker app and navigate to the IPO section.
- Select the IPO you wish to apply for and click Apply / Bid.
- Enter the number of lots (multiples of the specified lot size).
- Crucial: Always check the Cut-Off Price box. Bidding below the cut-off price disqualifies your bid if the issue prices at the top of the band.
- Enter your UPI ID (e.g.,
yourname@okhdfcbankoryourname@oksbi) and submit your bid. - Open your UPI app (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM) and authorize the Mandate Request before 5:00 PM on closing day.
Tips to Improve Allotment Probability
Apply through multiple family members' PAN accounts
Applying for 5 lots from one PAN gives you 1 lottery entry in an oversubscribed retail book. Applying for 1 lot each across 5 different family members' PAN accounts gives you 5 independent chances!
